In May, Governor Katie Hobbs announced a new appointment to the Arizona Beef Council.

Matt Arendt, a cattle feeder from Stanfield, will serve on the producer-led board guiding beef promotion and education efforts statewide.

"Matt's perspective as a producer helps ground our work in what really matters, building consumer confidence and driving demand for beef," said Lauren Maehling, executive director of the Arizona Beef Council. "We're excited to have him contribute to that effort."

Established by the Arizona Legislature in 1970, the Arizona Beef Council invests Beef Checkoff funds in promotion, research, and education to ensure a strong future for Arizona beef.  For more information about the Council, visit arizonabeef.org. Nationally, the Beef Checkoff Program was established as part of the 1985 Farm Bill. The checkoff assesses $1 per head on the sale of live domestic and imported cattle, in addition to a comparable assessment on imported beef and beef products. States retain up to 50 cents of each dollar and forward the other 50 cents per head to the Cattlemen’s Beef Promotion and Research Board, which administers the national checkoff program, subject to USDA approval.
