Engaging Arizona School Nutrition Leaders with Beef-Focused Solutions
Tiffany Selchow, Director of Social Marketing and Consumer Outreach | November 14, 2024
ABC participated in the jam-packed trade show with Beef. It’s What’s for Dinner. pens and recipe cards featuring a Personal Beef Pizza recipe scaled to the needs of a school food service kitchen and a link to find other recipes at the appropriate scale, with support from the Nebraska and Kansas Beef Councils. Lauren Maehling, executive director, and Tiffany Selchow, director of social marketing and consumer outreach, engaged participants in discussions about beef, its importance in a healthy diet, and how to overcome difficulties cafeteria managers may face in procuring and using it.
Along with the food show booth, the ABC sponsored the conference bags given out to hundreds of attendees where the ABC logo was displayed and a full page program ad featuring more information about beef and how it can help to power up school lunches. A follow-up email along with scheduled quarterly emails are sent to all of the participants to keep beef at the top of their minds when deciding on menus for the year.

About the Arizona Beef Council
The Arizona Beef Council is a non-profit organization served by a nine-member board of directors representing cattle growers, cattle feeders, and dairy farmers, and are appointed by the Governor of Arizona. These volunteers oversee the Beef Checkoff and Checkoff-funded programs.
About the Beef Checkoff Program
The Beef Checkoff Program was established as part of the 1985 Farm Bill. The checkoff assesses $1 per head on the sale of live domestic and imported cattle, in addition to a comparable assessment on imported beef and beef products. States may retain up to 50 cents on the dollar and forward the other 50 cents per head to the Cattlemen’s Beef Promotion and Research Board, which administers the national checkoff program, subject to USDA Approval.
